Tech Neck Syndrome
June 17, 2024
“The bad news and the good news”.
Did you know that the average head weighs 10-12 lbs. in a neutral position? Did you also know that the weight of the head increases greatly when it is held forward or tilted?
When we spend hours, each day hovered over computers and cell phones the weight of our head increases with each inch beyond neutral. This means that our head weight increases to 60 lbs. at a 60-degree angle!

Wow.
The bad news? That is a lot of stress and strain on our body structure and systems.
According to the AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) Massage Therapy Journal, short term and immediate symptoms of Tech Neck Syndrome can include: headaches, migraines, thumb arthritis, hand pain, limited range of motion, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, shoulder/upper back and upper arm pain, osteoarthritis, forearm tendinitis/tendinosis, loss of cervical curve/degenerative disc disease, nerve compression, TMJD (temporomandibular joint dysfunction), upper crossed syndrome, and back and neck pain from poor posture.
More chronic symptoms can include: insomnia, depression, impaired emotional and social intelligence, loss of lung capacity and respiratory issues, gastrointestinal issues, nomophobia, increase of cortisol/stress hormones, negative affectivity (long term mental and emotional exhaustion), and neck wrinkles.
The good news?
The Healing Arts offers an excellent source of options to help decrease pain. Our SoulSpace team is diverse, highly trained and professional. We can customize our therapeutic massage sessions to decrease symptoms and help the body to reset with corrective, and consistent care.
Complimentary to our hands-on therapies, we also offer Full Spectrum Infrared and Red-Light therapy, Chiropractic care, Foundation training, Vibroacoustic Sound therapy.
There are many quality therapies to choose from and that is the message I want to convey here. We have choices.
Pain and discomfort can deny us of our ability to thrive. Be courageous, try something new and get the care you deserve.
If you have any of these symptoms, give us a call, we would love to chat with you, care for you and help you to live your best life.
You are worth it,
